The Way to Find Government Grants

federal grant
sunshine01 asked:

Government grants are a significant way to fund nonprofit organizations, charities, and scholarships. They are gifts of money in response to a competitive application process which does not have to be repaid. This article will tell you how to find government grants for non-profit.

Foundation Center. The Foundation Center is an online resource that provides information for thousands of potential grants.

Federal Register. Federal Register is a searchable database of all federal grant announcements. The Grants website is a more user-friendly version of the Federal Register. Grants is also where you will register to submit federal online application for potential grant funding.

Local and regional foundations. An Internet search under “grants” and your location should produce several of the local foundations. Also, your state government may produce a guide of grant opportunities. Search their website for such a publication.

National organizations. Find the national organizations that are formed around your interests. Join them. Network with your colleagues to receive the insider information on funding opportunities and other extra essential bits of industry knowledge.

Books. Books about grant funding opportunities are available. Except for the great advice some of the articles may provide, the information in books can become outdated quickly. Also, most of the information in the books can be found online for free.

Online nonprofit newspapers. There are four major nonprofit newspapers and all of them can be found online: Chronicle of Philanthropy, NonProfit Times, Philanthropy Journal and Philanthropy News Network Online.

In a word, there are many ways to find and apply the government grants. If you try, you will get this grant finally.

About College Scholarships and Grants

federal grant
S. Michael Windsor asked:

About College Scholarships and Grants

Some of the best ways to pay for a college education is by focusing on either scholarships or grants. With college scholarships and grants, none of the money has to be repaid, in contrast to Federal student loans as well as private loans. Access to these types of funding usually has to do with the student’s past achievements in school and more. There are many types of scholarships and cannot be listed in full here; however, a good site to look at all the different scholarships would be college-scholarships.com which lists each one as well as some descriptions available. It is important to know that each scholarship may be different from the next and they may all have different terms and conditions applied to them which you will need to review prior to applying for the scholarship.

In addition to scholarships are grants. As a result of the US government’s No Child Left Behind Act, our government now offers more college grant opportunities than ever. Some of the Federal grants include the Pell Grant, National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (aka SMART) grant, as well as the Academic Competitiveness grant. The money provided by these grants and more are provided in order to help pay for college expenses such as for books and tuition. These grants and more can be obtained through federal and state governments, colleges, universities, as well as other public and private organizations.

There are several different categories for grants such as student-specific grants, degree level grants, subject specific grants as well as grants specifically for lower income students and minorities.

As for the student-specific grants, there are several categories such as those for low income or disadvantaged students, graduate grants, doctoral grants, undergraduate grants, non-traditional grants as well as military grants for college.

When considering subject-specific grants, subjects such as nursing, teaching and healthcare may offer grants for schooling which in many cases will be sponsored by corporations hoping to acquire interns and future employees to their companies after graduating from college with a degree in the corporation’s industry. In addition to the grants provided by many corporations and such, there are also those grants which are offered by your state and information about these types of grants that are offered by your individual state can be found be simply contacting your state offices and/or contacting financial aid offices at your college which you will be attending. There are many opportunities for students to get the funding for a great education and they can all be found by contacting those organizations or their websites for more information. If you are in high school, try a guidance counselor. It is important to get this information earlier on as the more you know the easier things will be once it comes down to getting that education funded.

Finding Small Business Grants

federal grant
Greg Heslin asked:

Poor financing is the number two reason small businesses fail, falling right behind poor management. Sufficient funding is paramount to the success of small businesses, and small business grants can be the answer to the problem. If business owners have the necessary knowledge about how to find and properly request grants, they have a better shot at creating a successful business that will be open longer and prosper.

There are over 300 different grants and loans available for small businesses that are just starting out. The grants range from $25,000 up to $1,000,000 depending on the size and projected success rate of the business. There are also grants available to help small businesses grow or expand. Grants are not the same as loans because they do not have to be repaid. A grant is considered free money, as well as an investment to promote the success of small businesses and the U.S. economy. Money for grants comes from income taxes. Obtaining a small business grant does not require credit checks or deposits, even if the owners have experienced bankruptcy in the past.

There are a number of helpful websites that send small businesses government grant packages for free, excluding the cost of shipping. These packages include information on how to find grants, how to prepare a grant request, and how to apply for grants pertaining to a specific business. Some of the providers are Government Funding Solutions, Grant Master, and Grant Wizard.

It is important to be familiar with the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) rules for receiving grants before beginning the process of obtaining one. Although the SBA does not provide grants to small businesses, they do provide helpful suggestions and resources on how to find grants.

In order to qualify for a small business grant, individuals must first become familiar with the 13 CFR 143 document that lists all of the requirements to be eligible for a grant. This document includes information on the pre-award and post-award periods and defines all aspects of applying for a grant and states who is eligible. The CFR is the primary source of rules and regulations for small business grants and must be read before starting the grant writing process.

After reviewing the requirements, prospective business owners must write a grant request. There are professionals who will write a grant proposal or the individuals may complete it themselves. The Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance is a helpful site that links individuals to resources about federal grants for small businesses. Afterschool.gov gives helpful tips on how to write a small business grant and, although it is geared toward grants for after school programs, includes helpful information for grant writing in general.

Additionally, there are many well-established government and private organizations that provide grants to small businesses. The Department of Justice’s Ten Grant document gives access to grant opportunities for those conducting research in support of law enforcement. The Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration has several grant opportunities for small business owners. They offer about $125 million to businesses that are based in a community setting with special attention to training programs. The Department of Transportation is another organization that offers small business grants. They offer grants to any business willing to help resolve the growing problems with the federal-aid highway program. The Department of Education has a program called e-GRANTS that locates electronic grants online. They have a detailed list of grants available and the necessary applications to fill out. There are a variety of grants available for different groups, all of which have detailed descriptions and contact information. Other organizations that provide small business grants include the EPA, the National Cancer Institute, NOAA, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

How Does the Government Offer Grants to People

federal grant
sunshine03 asked:

Do you want to know about the government grants? Here, let’s talk about it.

Step1

Most government grants are not available year round, therefore,a grant seeker must apply when a particular grant program is announced by a government agency. When funds are made available, the agency places an announcement in the Federal Register, which is published each weekday. Federal grant announcements are also published on agency websites, many of which now allow grant seekers to submit grant applications electronically. In addition, those in search of grant funds can check out the government’s Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance for more information on specific grants.

Step2

While the Federal government gives out more than one hundred and fifty billion dollars in grants each year, in many cases, the money is distributed to individual states, which then redistribute the funds to businesses and programs, which will in some way benefit the public. Seeking a government grant requires a lot of time with no guarantee that the organization or individual applying will receive the grant. If grant monies are awarded, all grant funds must be spent exactly as described in the grant application.

Step3

Grant projects approved by the government begin to be announced once the Federal budget has been approved. At that time, eligible individuals or organizations may then apply for a specific grant that has been announced to the public. The grant announcement will specify how applicants can apply, where to get an application packet and the deadline date on which the application is due. In order to qualify to apply for a particular grant, the applicant must meet the grant’s eligibility requirements. Instructions on how to apply will include how funds received from the grant may be used, specific information to be included on the application and the reporting methods expected from grant recipients. When submitting an application, those seeking funds must develop goals for use of the funds to be detailed in the application, along with a time frame for the steps of a proposed project or program to be completed. Failure to complete a project or program on time and in the manner specified in the grant proposal can result in serious penalties.

Grant Recipients

Even though the Federal government traditionally awards grant monies to government agencies and other community organizations that help those in need, a good deal of funding is provided to the nation’s states, counties or cities to distribute as block grants to other charities and social service agencies planning projects, which will benefit communities at large. In these cases, the governmental body redistributing the grant money is responsible for conducting annual audits and may set its own guidelines and regulations for use of the funds. But no matter how grant funds are allocated, grant recipients must follow strict requirements throughout the duration of the program or project, clearly accounting for all expenses.

Education Grants

federal grant
Steve asked:

Education Grants

Millions of dollars are offered in the form of education grants depending upon the assignments and objectives of the tasks and projects assigned. Education grants are also dependent on the governance of the institutions. By default, state schools, colleges and universities are provided education grants to keep competitive with the changes in the education industry and have long term goals in mind. The grants are already predefined and the projects are long term that intended to hone the society and the intellectual minds living in those vicinities. Education grants can either come from states, governments or privately funded organizations.

For the most part, education grants are for the students who have the willingness to learn and thrive but the financial implications hinder the goals of obtaining a degree. There are thousands of grants available for all different segments of the disciplines, schools, and countries. http://www.360career.com  Grants also have different contracts and laws governing the use of the money. Grants are not like loans where the amount of money has to be paid off in a certain amount of years. Rather, grants do not require a pay back and are of prestigious value for students who can earn grants and scholarships. Though, there are many of the grants that have certain laws and implications associated with the grant. Many of the countries that give grants to their students to go to United States or United Kingdom sign off agreements that ensure that the specific student will come back and teach for a particular number of years in a defined role and institution.

Applying and acceptance of grants is not as easy as one thinks. Institutions grants loans or financial packages go through an extensive checklist of your previous education records, financial standing of parents and your future objectives.

Being accepted for a grant is most certainly an achievement by all standards and practice. It is also imperative to get a grant that aligns its money with your future growth. Private institutions provide grants in their particular field and allow for students that do not have the money to grow in that particular field. This not only contributes to the overall efficiency of the field but grows the understanding of that knowledge base. There are dedicated grants for animal doctors to explore disease and bio chemical hazards in remote areas of the world. The grants allows the students to partake education in chemistry or medical sciences any where in the world and provide the opportunity to go to the areas where the field of study and research is required.

Public grants have similar intent and goals in mind and that is to uplift the society with contributing and adding more civilized and education people within its domain. Each grant encourages the people to pursue higher education and specialize in their fields of study.

Federal grants are also available that are allocated by congress and applicable for all students in all classes.

Colleges and universities do not discourage the students coming to their institutions on grants rather it is a source of pride that the students granted the grant plan on pursuing their education at that particular university.
